Mr Tamochy is senior in the service to Mr Lister, when the latter was appointed Acting Registrar General in May 1868, and it seems desirable that Mr. Tamochy, who has for some time been more efficient than formerly, should have his turn, as I consider it objectionable for many reasons that the Public Officers of the Colony should always move in the same groove.
Mr. Alfred Lister is appointed Assistant Harbor Master to act pending Your Lordship's instructions. The position is a very important one involving as it does the general superintendence of the Harbor and special duties connected with the Garner and Coast Ordinance (No. 6, 1866). Mr. Lister, from his former experience in that situation from November 1869 to May 1871, is well qualified to discharge the duties efficiently.
There only remained the Office of Treasurer to provide for, as that could not be retained by Mr. Sinish, whilst adding the post of Auditor General, and I had much pleasure in offering it to Mr May, Senior Police Magistrate, as a recognition of his valuable and faithful services. The post of Treasurer carries with it
